Whale Bay is a short drive from town past the main swimming beach and Manu Bay.
We love Whale Bay at Low Tide because we can get out among the rock pools and discover the treasures otherwise hidden.
The lower the tide the better your opportunity to discover the pink volcanic rock, sea life like crabs and starfish, five and 11 finger, in a range of colours and the many varieties of seaweed. It is pretty cool to discover a rock which over months or years has created a wee home for itself in a much larger rock.
At mid tide you’ll also discover why it is called Whale Bay.
Decent sneakers are best unless you’ve got tough feet.
